Only rating 2 stars because the hostess and server were so kind. They have to compensate for a pretty unpleasant dining experience. We are a very easy going family and I rarely review however, we felt it necessary to comment for travelers. The place offers a "buffet" with a wilty lettuce salad bar and a small handful of over cooked, overly salted options. Smallest buffet ever. Only the fried chicken had any redeeming qualities- the pieces without feathers. I actually allowed my sons to not finish their plates and we asked our bill. (One had the buffet one ordered a cheeseburger.) We typically love mom & pop restaurants and prefer giving our business to smaller places, but I cannot, in good conscious, suggest people spend $13/ person for this. Literally, fast food would be a better option :(

The atmosphere was homelike and welcoming. All of our food was cooked to order. We had breakfast. Among the 3 of us we enjoyed each item ordered: bacon was crisp, sausage was savory, French toast had enough batter with cinnamon but wasn't soggy and came with lots of butter and syrup on the side. I wasn't expecting to be asked for a review here during an overnight trip to visit our daughter, so I don't have any pictures of the food or restaurant. However, they raise peacocks. They are in a protected environment, but the public is allowed to visit them and can see them very clearly. I'm going to attach some pictures of the peacocks. They were definitely part of a very pleasant experience for us. Two of them were albinos.

Great service, great food. We had the buffet which had fried chicken, ham, fried shrimp, corn fritters, green beans and greens to name a few. There was also a salad bar and dessert options included. The ingredients were fresh and tasted like they came straight from the garden. Our waitress was sweet, friendly and helpful. As we were leaving, we saw 3 beautiful peacocks in a building at the far end of the parking lot which was a nice surprise for the kids.

We arrived late, about 30 minutes before closing on a Sunday evening. We had a party of 10 people. The staff was friendly and helpful. We were very hungry after a day of traveling. Everyone liked their meals and had only good comments. We are staying in the cute cabins so we will eat there again.

We were very pleasantly surprised by how much we enjoyed our quick lunch here. They make their own potato chips at Brookside, and they are a must try, especially when they are right out of the fryer. You'd think that BLTs are all the same (ok, I would) but my wife said that theirs was outstanding - they also make their own bread. The down-home friendly service you'd expect out that way. We will definitely return!
